    My two cents

A bit of range loss. Not terrible, but I don't have a number to put on it.

    My two cents

I had the same issue with the stock Michelin Energy Saver tires. They also failed inspection after 20k miles. I replaced them with Michelin Primacy MXM4's, and the grip is much better. There is a bit of tire noise, however.

Very cold H_BATT_TEMP observed via OBDII -- normal?

All vehicle temperature parameters are reported in Celsius. Your viewer must do the conversion to Fahrenheit.

    Quick charge project

Trying out some revised software with the tapering added. This is a shot of my display during the constant current phase of charging.

    Quick charge project

Did a 0% to 80% charge this morning in 20 minutes and 40 seconds. The thermal management system was fully engaged keeping the battery at ~100F. At 80% I'm hitting 351V which is my CV point. So after 80% the current is going to start to be throttled back from 120A.

    Quick charge project

Success! This FFE just became Chademo enabled! ;) This isn't the final automated version, but the car took 120A like a champ. Ignore the SOC on the charging station and the time remaining, as they are just dummy values for now. Also, the voltage at the charger reads higher than the actual...

    Quick charge project

I will eventually, but I will really have to round up the receipts. This project has been going on for a while now.

To charge or not to charge ...

I would charge because I believe any negative effect would be negligible, and I always like to have the highest SOC possible in case I go somewhere I wasn't planning on.

    OBDII data for HVB

ETE will change based on a bunch of things. It's a calculated value. If you're in a cold garage, and go out to a hot sunny day and just sit there, you can see the ETE tick up and up and up. What you used as reported by the car's trip meter is based on current * voltage * dt summed together for...

Check out my mobile Level 2 charging kit!

    Did you want a 14-50? Because that is not a 14-50, that is a 10-50. NEMA 14-50P NEMA 10-50P

How do I get just outside air with no heat/ac?

On the FFE there is one A/C compressor, but it has a diverter valve to either send refrigerant to the chiller to cool the battery coolant, or to go to the HVAC system. If it is just cooling the battery, refrigerant will only flow there. So no, there is no way to "cheat the system" like that. If...

    Battery Capacity

Standard OBDII readers are not going to work. Just a side note, both OBDII ports on the car have identical pinouts and work the same. It is suggested in the service manual to use the one behind the door and not the one up under the dash.

    Stop Safely Now Warning

No problem guys. I just wish Ford would have provided better training for dealers and provide better tools to diagnose and fix the cars. The problems aren't earth shattering, but with no help from Ford, what can they do but try things here and there. Most dealers outside of Southern California...

    Stop Safely Now Warning

What they're trying to fix with the harness replacement is the failure of the High Voltage Interlock pins in the main battery feed connector. There is really nothing wrong with the harness, but the little shorting pins are breaking their connections and causing the car to think you unplugged a...

    Quick charge project

Tried out the BRUSA last night. I was able to do a 56% to 94% charge in 42 minutes. I have the BRUSA set to shut off at 94%, and then the on board charger finishes the charge. BRUSA pulls about 16A, the on board pulls about 30A, for a total of 46A AC in. The beauty of it is that while higher...

    Yes, this is normal operation.

    Quick charge project

I'd say it was a productive weekend :D All the hardware is in and mounted. The high voltage cables are all connected except for the BRUSA battery leads (just waiting on some ring terminals). All that remains is finishing the controls. CAN bus work is about 50% done. Getting closer...

    Highway use

Since everyone liked that one so much, here is a link to the index page with a bunch of documents on the FFE; including battery testing. Other BEV's were tested as well. http://avt.inl.gov/fsev.shtml

    Charging Problem

If it's happening with multiple EVSE's there is an issue with the proximity resistance detection. This could be external in the harness going from the charge port to the SODBM ("on board charger"), or, more likely, the SODBM itself has an issue with the proximity detection circuit. I'd try to...
