Putting our FFE in Earth Day festival - advice?

The really tempting equation is those new Tesla solar roof shingles. Granted, some of what Elon said about them is partly marketing, but even if what he says is half true - the payback is way faster than standalone panels. We live in the Chicago area. When I had the electrician out to install...

FFE Liquid Cooling vs VW eGolf Air Cooling

Maybe VW is smarter than Nissan, or learned the lesson on how to manage lithium ion batteries without active temperature management. Somehow I doubt that sincerely. BMW, Tesla, and Ford all opted to use active temperature management for their batteries. Nissan used air cooling. The first...

Dear Ford, please work on your website.

Yeah the myford owner's website has been like that forever. Not sure I can totally fault Ford - every single car they sell has a gasoline engine, except one. And they have only sold how many - in the thousands, versus millions of the other kind. So I can kind of forgive them not including that...

Putting our FFE in Earth Day festival - advice?

Just relax and have fun. They're usually a great event. You got the questions exactly right. Oh, somebody will ask where you put gas. Even after you tell them it is battery powered. And they will ask again. It is a lot of fun talking about the car. You'll probably run into other electric car...

2016 FFE for Sale 20k miles/ Pittsburgh, PA Area

You really don't need the HWPC - that's not at all necessary for home charging. The UMC that comes with the car works just fine for overnight charging (do the 50 amp 240V circuit with a NEMA - whatever 240V plug. Or use the L2 chargers - you'll get what you need overnight. The only thing that...

2016 FFE for Sale 20k miles/ Pittsburgh, PA Area

Yeah, Tesla hires a company to do their trade ins, and the original estimate they give you is usually higher than what the final numbers ends up. Pretty classic. Well, hey, congratulations on the Model X. You'll have a great time with that car. And you already know how to drive it and charge...

12V battery issues on 2016 FFE

No tips for a situation like that. (the normal answer is a recall to reprogram the car - but that was for older cars) It sounds like either there is a problem with the charging system, like Owen87 said; or there is some drain on the 12V battery, a short somewhere, an accessory that isn't...

Ford ends Focus EV production in Europe

Aw darn. On the other hand, when they only sell 60 per year, kind of tough to justify any kind of manufacturing.

Newbie electric driver budget/driving style question

Great purchase buying the 2014 FFE. It is a fantastic car for exactly your use - around a 20 mile each way commute. You'll get used to driving it, the car does take a little time to get the most range out of it. Somebody with a lot more experience with the budget display you're asking about...

Using an Extension Cord With The FFE

Wow, this just gets more complicated as we go. Amped is absolutely correct Marcham93 - you picked the wrong extension cord. That one will never plug into a 110V outlet. It is a NEMA 6-50 plug that looks a lot like a regular old three prong plug (that's why I thought the cord would work, the...

    12v battery appears dead

Yes you can jump start the car. It works. Correct, just plugging it in won't charge the battery. Probably a good idea to replace the battery. No reason to replace with anything but a standard lead acid battery. I have a couple of those Li-Ion small jump starters. Have no recommendation...

Using an Extension Cord With The FFE

Best advice ever Triangles. Can't over emphasize uncoiling the cord. Never use an extension cord that is wound up in a coil. It will overheat. No coils in a bucket, no roll up device, no coil just sitting on the floor.

Using an Extension Cord With The FFE

The one you linked to at Amazon is pretty similar to the one I carry in my Tesla - have used it many times at hotels and other 120V outlets to charge the car overnight. You got the kind of overkill gauge to be safe. This is the one I used - I liked the yellow wire and the lighted ends...

Questions Abour Choosing 240v Charging Stations

You could look at laptop skins - that would be a square of material. The Gelaskin material is really heavy and super nice. It goes on with no bubbles. The other option is vinyl automotive wrap. There are smaller sheets available, not just the massive 5 or 6 foot rolls. Those would be a solid...

Questions Abour Choosing 240v Charging Stations

First of all, it has to be the GE Wattstation. That was the only one Gelaskins ever offered skins for. I can't find them at all any more. Gelaskins must have discontinued them? If they made the skins to order, then they didn't have stock laying around. If they had them made, it is possible...

Questions Abour Choosing 240v Charging Stations

I ended up with a GE WattStation because my installer recommended it (the bill to do all the electrical work was already big, and just going with something he recommended was simple - not cheap at the time, and I could count the cost in the Illinois EVSE rebate). I see it at Home Depot for...

Questions Abour Choosing 240v Charging Stations

There is another reason to go with something made by a real company, not some seller on Amazon or eBay, warranty. If something should go wrong, who is going to help you at Dostar? I know where to go for GE, ClipperCreek, Schneider, Bosch, chargepoint ... warranty repairs.

Questions Abour Choosing 240v Charging Stations

Hope I don't open a can of worms here - please buy one that is UL or Intertek certified. A really great article about safety. The discussion at the bottom is also worth reading if you have time. https://chargedevs.com/features/amazon-evse-safety/ What I got from that article, buy a brand...

In the market for all electric

The other car for long trips isn't really a problem - if you need to go on a longer trip, just rent a car. It is far cheaper and easier than keeping an old ICE around. Probably the only thing you could do to mess up that range is drive 84 the whole way. You might not make it. But at 65-70 with...

    Battery Cooling

I'm really not understanding your question. The coolant in the FFE is antifreeze - similar to ICE cars. It uses Ford orange antifreeze / coolant. So if you can use regular old coolant in your generator, well yeah you could use this.
