    myford app subscription

The two extended warranty items do not require a dealer visit. Since the modem was not replaced, go to a Ford dealer. They will look up all the outstanding recalls. If they have the parts, they can do the work at the same time as the modem. The Ford owner's website is sometimes out of date...

    changing wheels and tires

Well OK then. Good luck. Would have added some more advice, as in tire size that actually works, and where you could get more real life experience in the snow. But you seem to know exactly what to do. So really good luck with all that.

Does the FFE have fog lights?

Probably more cost than weight, I would guess. They were building to a price point, adding those two costly options would just up the price of the car or reduce margin. They didn't put in the Homelink visor, rain sensing wipers... and probably a few other things.

    changing wheels and tires

Gotcha. 18 inch winter tires are a very bad idea on that car. Now I ask why winter tires? Have you gone through a winter with the car on the normal tires? Unless you live in Quebec and are required by law, I'm not seeing a reason to buy winter tires. 4 or 5 winters in Chicago with no problems...

End of lease? What are you doing?

Good thing you got to the inspection thing settled. It isn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be - the guy was super nice, he did a great job. It isn't like an IRS audit or going the principal's office. I left the guy alone when he did the inspection. That's pretty much how he wanted it...

OBDII data for LVB (12V battery)

Triangles - I don't know this for sure, but I would suspect all the 12V devices draw from the battery, and the DC-DC converter only charges the battery. If that converter drove all the 12V devices, there wouldn't be a need for a 12V battery ever. I think the logic is that ICE components all...

    changing wheels and tires

Whoa, why 15 inch wheels? I would figure a person would go up in wheels size to lower profile. The Focus Titanium handling package is 18 inch wheels. We have that car with the handling package. 235/40ZR18 95W XL.

End of lease? What are you doing?

Is your lease with Ford? If it is, they send out a person a few weeks before returning your car to do a complete inspection. They are very thorough. You really have to leave the guy alone, he doesn't want you around during the inspection. You'll get an email a few days afterwards with what they...

    Ford Parts HVB Price Increase

Not sure where you were looking that you had to enter a VIN number (some places like the VIN so they can be certain you did a perfect match, but it is only a suggestion). AutoNation (used to be Tousley) no problem finding the battery without a VIN. Comparing the 2013 and 2017, the same battery...

Focus EV Shows "Check Battery Charge"

You could also get a 12V outlet to USB adapter that has a volt meter display. They're cheap, gives you an extra couple USB ports for charging, and you'll know the voltage from the 12V battery. I keep one in the glove compartment for when I suspect the 12V battery is acting up.

Nissan Leaf 2018 - New Model

Wow I missed the new front end on that car, figured it was similar to the squashed frog from before. They totally changed the car, made it more normal looking - more like a Nissan Sentra than something weird birthed from a Nissan Versa. Brian Cooley at CNet talks about the new Leaf. A really...

    Stock Sony Amplifier / Subwoofer?

Go the the Ford Focus Fanatics forum. There are people that have torn apart the dash and upgraded the speakers. I remember a very long post where a guy went through every single step for each speaker. I'm pretty sure I referenced that post somewhere on this forum. The ICE and FFE are pretty much...

    Extended Warranty - Worth It?

Another way to look at the extended warranty. If there is some kind of catastrophic repair necessary, a couple thousand dollar (can't imagine what that would be, but...), we just figured we bought the car used for not a lot of money, we got the year use out of it we needed, and if the repair is...

    2017 FFE range at speed

Wind resistance is the big energy use. The motor has little effect on energy (that dual motor thing you mention - is probably a Tesla and they use something altogether different to make that 10% increase - has nothing to do with wind resistance). It is oddly simple physics. The power to push...

New 2017 Models below $20k BEFORE tax credit

So sad, if it's too good to be true... Good luck with the other cars. Have fun looking.

    Programming Replacement Key

McGavin - rebates are only for NEW car purchase. You bought used, none available. Rebates were probably a combination of Ford cash, rebates, and incentives; and federal tax or state incentives. You didn't miss anything.

buying used - what to look for and dealership games

Hey I jumped in with both feet, closed my eyes, and bought a used FFE from a used car dealer. Granted I had over three years experience with the car, so I kind of knew what to look for. I'd say phooey on the draw down test. I'm betting no dealer knows how to do that and wouldn't bother with...

whats the highest odometer reading on a FFE?

A great question. I actually don't remember anybody asking this before. 40,740 miles. That's our third FFE. Bought this one used, so those aren't all my miles.

    FFE in Winter Ontario

Congratulations on buying the car. That's great you are happy. Think I'm going on 4 winters in Chicago. Never needed winter tires. The original equipment worked just fine. As I recall from all my travels to Toronto, your winters are very similar to Chicago - about the same amount of snow...
