Ford to Shut Down, Merge Focus Electric MyFordMobile Site

Your problems are different than ours. We can't even connect with the car at all - no battery state, no location, nothing. It just says "unable to connect with car" or sometimes "update failed" after clicking the update button.

Ford to Shut Down, Merge Focus Electric MyFordMobile Site

We've had a similar problem. We finally got it working a couple months ago but about a month later it was unable to contact the car anymore. I fixed it twice by pulling the fuse but then you have to set it up again. I suspect the telematics module has issues. We've basically given up on it and...

What are you using for a charging station?

And it's made in America. The CEO and many of Clipper Creek's employees drive EVs. Their chargers are designed well and very reliable. You can't buy a charger with a cord longer than 25' because the J1772 standard does not allow it.

    Stop Safely Now Warning

Myfordmobile.com was unable to ever contact the car. We were unable to set go times which was a real PITA when the weather got cold. It had nothing to do with SSN which is the subject of this thread.

    Stop Safely Now Warning

We've got 4k miles on ours and never had SSN. We had a problem with the telematics that made myfordmobile quit working and nothing we could do to fix it. Then more problems when they moved the site. Finally we got one of the lead engineers working on our case and were able to get it working...

Recharging FFE While Being Towed & Applying Brakes

As paw160 said, Level3 is a standard describing the type of power supplied by the EVSE among other things. Technically it's not Level 3 because the EVSE is not supplying any electricity - either AC or DC. Regen is already implemented with a rectifier in combination with the inverter to help...

Recharging FFE While Being Towed & Applying Brakes

There is no clutch so it has to be electronic or using a contactor. They recommend a maximum 4-wheel towing speed (35 mph) so I wonder if the voltage gets too high if you exceed that. At some point it probably begins to clamp the voltage so you might feel some resistance above a certain speed...

Recharging FFE While Being Towed & Applying Brakes

It's not DC to DC. The motor is AC induction so it would be similar to plugging your car in except probably stronger. I don't know how strong (in terms of kW) the regen is on a FFE but most EVs are capable of much higher charging rates during regen than while plugged in. Regen braking usually...

    need opinions

+1 It seems like you pay a big price for a range extender in any car. The Chevy Volt, for example, consumes almost 400 Wh/mi of electricity. Part of the reason for that is the extra weight of a gas motor, tank, and generator. I know everybody has different needs and likes, but for me I can't...

My Ford Mobile won't update / problems with value charge

About a month prior to the site move I had this problem. Everything working fine and then all of a sudden it wouldn't update. Click the "update" button and it just came back "unable to contact vehicle." Was like that for weeks until tech support told me to delete the car and do a reset, then add...

    Value Charge Question

Based on Ford's advice I deleted our car, did a system reset, and then went back on the site and added the car back on again. Many settings lost in the car at that point. Then about a week later they moved the site and everything is broken again. It won't even let me log on! Tried having my pwd...

    PERFORMANCE TUNING ANYONE?

A couple more ideas. Drive the car hard for a few minutes to make the battery as warm as possible. Then top it up on a 30A charging station so the battery doesn't have much chance to get cooled down again. A warm battery performs a little better. Always drive in L. It has exactly the same...

    PERFORMANCE TUNING ANYONE?

Hey lotusman, I understand where you're coming from. You need a Tesla Roadster. You can get it with an adjustable suspension (from Tesla or aftermarket) that allows you to make some significant handling improvements. You can also do more with the traction control, which is much better than the...

Best practices to preserve battery life??

Since Nissan came out with their "winter package" for the Leaf, it can heat the pack. The problem is heating with air/convection is far less efficient than with liquid, even if you don't use a heat pump. Another reason the FFE get's better range in very cold conditions.

Best practices to preserve battery life??

LOL I don' think you can draw that conclusion based on the hybrids. The parallel hybrids are designed to use the middle 20% of the battery so obviously they're not the same. The serial hybrids have smaller batteries and are designed for quick charge/discharge cycles repeatedly when the engine is...

New site: Still with the non-sensical charge logs

Dude, apparently you're not aware of the fact that in addition to sensational torque, EVs are also capable of time-warping acceleration. Get used to it. BTW, only Ford can do these things... Hey, At least you can log in. We finally called tech support and were told that "lots of people are...

Best practices to preserve battery life??

Probably nothing. An interesting read is the study that Plug In America did on the Tesla Roadster. http://www.pluginamerica.org/surveys/batteries/tesla-roadster/PIA-Roadster-Battery-Study.pdf There were many owners who went to great lengths to prolong battery life, but ended up in the middle of...

Best practices to preserve battery life??

Thanks for your recommendations. How do you reconcile the fact that 1 and 3 work against each other? It becomes a matter of priorities as to which is worse - heat or state of charge (SOC). Based on everything we've both read, heat is worse, especially if you never charge above 90% SOC to begin...

Anyone managed to get a Juicebox yet?

I know some EV owners who have done just that - installed a large fan in the attic of their garage to vent the heated air coming from battery cooling. I just looked out the window and noticed it was snowing. Wish I could trade some of your heat for some of my cold! That's right, with the...

Anyone managed to get a Juicebox yet?

No, JuiceBox (or any other EVSE) does not implement time-of-use charging by "using a signal to flip a relay." I don't think you understood what I said, and I don't think you understand how EVSEs work. Sorry I didn't explain it very well. And you should never put an EVSE on a timer (it's bad for...
