This is one of the issues that I have just lived with. I didn't know about the TSB to fix it the last time my FFE was at the dealer & it hasn't been to the dealer in over a year now. With my lease ending this month I decided at the start of the spring that I wasn't going to mess with it.

$10k seems reasonable considering that the residual was likely $18k or higher. My residual is $18,945.50 for a 2013 FFE with a 10.5k/year lease. It will likely sell at auction for about $10k less than the residual.

I viewed it as a designed feature. It could help prevent carjacking where someone is hiding alongside your vehicle, waiting for you to unlock it so that they can jump in. Who knows if that's actually the design...

My car is pretty close to always working. It's rare that I need to use the fob to unlock. Usually when there's an issue with the handles sensing my hand it's because a passenger grabbed their handle first. The car seems to then disable the handle unlocking to prevent unauthorized access to the car.

This is really the only wear I see on my fob. However, it doesn't get much use with intelligent access & push button start. The main use my fob gets is remote starting the car to run the HVAC. Thos buttons show some signs of wear, but not much.
