I searched and couldn't find a specific answer so I apologize for the simplicity of my question. I am looking to buy or lease a Focus Electric and am wondering if the remote start feature via MFM works even when the car is not plugged in and charging. I live in Phoenix, AZ, so it would be very handy to have when out running errands and shopping, or even when at church.

From what I found alluding to this topic, it should work, but then I asked someone who owns the car already and he said he doesn't think it's possible.

Also, if you happen to know the answer for the Nissan Leaf SV, that would be great.

Yes the remote control via the key FOB or the smartphone app can remote start the car when unplugged.
You can inside the car setup how the climate control will operate in remote start mode, either auto or the last settings.
When you are out shopping you can issue a remote start a little while before you will go out to your car and it will be near the set temperature then. Of course that will use some HV battery energy.

We use the remote start all the time. It keeps the car cool or warm so it's ready to drive.
