I'm curious since photos of the new color vary, in many photos it looks more purplish to me.
In real life, does performance blue look more blue or purple?

Both: Its one of those colors that changes depending on the ambient lighting (e.g. on a cloudy day it looks one way and different from when it is sunny). Our neighbors have a Performance Blue Escape that I see daily and it looks different each day.

Congrats on your new car!!! Love the picture of you in the back seat! My wife was laughing at me the first night I got mine, because I wouldn't come in from the driveway, I was just sitting outside with the manual fiddling with all of the settings!!

Looks real blue to me.
