Hello. I am close to signing paperwork on a now Focus EV, but one big question looms. Are there any adapters for the plug. Dealer does not know. What I mean is, my buddy's Tesla offers a home charger, but it is not necessary because Testa's on board charger and plug offers numerour adapters. My buddy simply installed a 50 amp plug in his garage, and uses the 50 amp adapter to charge his car w/on board charger. Obviously much faster that 110v. I am planning on leasing, and the $1500 charger option will put me in the Cmax price range.

Any ideas? I need faster charging that 110v. I would like to plug into a 30A or 50 A plug.

Thank you.

The bundled EVSE can't be upgraded or otherwise adapted to higher charging voltages or currents, but there's no reason to buy Ford's EVSE, either. You can get a good one for around $800 or less if you shop around. (I'm not including installation, but there are several models that can be wired to plug into a dryer outlet or similar.)

You may be interested in this thread that I started to show off the Level 2 charging kit (with adapters) that I created for my FFE:

If you have any questions, post to the thread and I will be glad to answer.

It is possible to do what you are proposing, but not with the cord that comes with the FEE. The cord you need is $1027 at EVSEupgrade.com plus whichever adapter you want. To my knowledge, they are the only one that safely does this.

Amazon has a few level 2 EVSE's with plugs on them for hundreds less.

The charging kit I created using a ClipperCreek LCS-25, plus adapters I created, and the 50" extension cable, and other accessories, cost well under $1000.

The evseupgrade makes sense only if you already have the 110 evse as a starting point. The upgrade service is less than $300. Otherwise it's much better to just buy a level 2 portable such as Clipper Creek or EV institute.

akfieredawg, you may want to investigate whether there are any state-sponsored programs to pay for the charger. Here in California the California Energy Commission has a program that provides a free charger and "standard" installation. The catch is that the dealer needs to call the administrator on the day that you purchase/lease the vehicle to get the freebie.
