With the start of the 2014 model year, I decided to look and see if any dealers had new cars on order. I found one 2014 dealer order and aside from the lack of incentives, the price looked unchanged from before. This is consistent with the build and price tool on Ford.com, the base price is still shown as $39,200+$795 destination = $39,995.

However, when I clicked on the window sticker I noticed something different. It lists the Base Price as $35,200, plus $60 for a charge cord bag and $795 for destination, for a total MSRP of $36,055. This would indicate a reduction of $4000 in the base price for the 2014 model. Below is a link to the window sticker. Has anyone heard official news of a price reduction?

Interesting; the window sticker for the 2014 sitting on my dealer's lot also shows $35k:

I wonder if that means Ford will be dropping the extra $4k incentive and just selling the car cheaper.

This price is close to similarly equiped Nissan Leaf. What Ford needs to do is offer less option version at a lower price. Most popular version will be the more expensive version. One other thing ford could do is offer is a larger battery option. That could have a range of over 100 miles.

I mentioned your post when commenting on an article on Volt pricing on insideevs.com.... apparently one of the authors followed up on it and wrote this up last night:

http://insideevs.com/ford-focus-electric-base-msrp-drops-by-4000-to-35200-according-to-window-sticker/

He even used the same window sticker you posted.

He updated it this morning with a quote from a Ford representative confirming the price drop.

Excellent find, timf!

Thanks, it looks like the news has spread everywhere and has been confirmed by Ford. I wonder when they were planning to announce this if it hadn't been noticed.

USA Today and Time Magazine, and NBC finally got word out yesterday, apparently. Inetesting to watch how the word spreads, at least for me. I'm easily amused.

Ford website finally reflects the lower 2014 pricing, but the Lease tab says there are no special lease deals yet, to contact your dealer for details.

Ugh I should have waited 2 weeks! I didnt think they would drop the MSRP by $4k!

I guess you win some and lose some. I wonder what the lease will cost? Hopefully it ends up being around the same that I am paying so I dont feel too ripped off!

Hey philly_ev - This should make you feel better:

http://insideevs.com/focus-electric-better-competes-with-a-new-lease/

The lease deal on a 2013 is down to $2028 to start + tax + fees, and $229/mo+tax. You did better than that; in total you're paying less over three years, and that's for 3k miles more per year. You still got a great deal on your 2013.

As for a 2014 lease deal - insideevs suspects that it will be a little more than the 2013 deal, which makes sense to me. Now that the 2014 MSRP is $4K less, I'm guessing that the huge rebate on a lease ($11750?) will be reduced to be somewhat closer to the $7500 federal tax credit. Take a look at the cash offers on a Focus purchase;

http://www.ford.com/cars/focus/pricing/

Note that there are cash incentives on a purchase for every variety of Focus except for the two low-production niche vehicles - our beloved FFE and the hot-to-trot Focus ST. To me that's a telltale sign that the lease on a 2014 FFE won't undercut the current lease deal on the 2013. Time will tell...

Just agreed to terms on a 2013 lease, even with the $4000 cheaper 2014 looming. When I ran the numbers the 2014 lease was higher because of two reasons. No extra incentives beyond the federal $7500 (vs $12750 total on the 2013). Furthermore the 2014 suffers from a lower residual value. In other words, they are leasing the 2013 as if it were $4000 cheaper, and it has a better residual value = cheaper lease. The only thing that would make me want to spend more is if the 2014 had the combo charger. Even though there has been speculation about the combo charger being on the 2014 months ago, all the window stickers available online now suggest otherwise.
