Remember the Ford Comuta?

Ford EVs come a long way, but really, what hasn't since 1967?

The Ford Comuta was what one could call the predecessor to the 2012 Ford Focus Electric car.
It was a tiny little concept car released by Ford in the late 1960s, had a top speed of about 40MPH and a range of about the same 40 miles.

Ford's director at the time stated that "their uses will be primarily as city centre delivery vans and suburban shopping cars"

Interesting - that's still what people are saying.

The Comuta was shown at the Geneva auto show in 1967, and Ford brought it back out this year to commemorate 100 years of manufacturing in the UK.

The Ford Focus platform that the Ford Focus Electric is being built on is currently the UK's best selling automobile - it will be interesting to see if the popularity carries over to the Focus EV.

Wow - Ford should've run with that! The Smart Fortwo looks like a carbon copy of it!

As lovely as it is, that car is so small... I wouldn't want to drive it any faster than 40MPH. That's something I really like about the Ford Focus Electric - it's a full size car with batteries. Many of the real fuel efficient cars are tiny little things with only enough space for 2 passengers and hardly any baggage. The Ford Focus Electric has space for 5 AND some baggage (although we've yet to know how much cargo space exactly due to the battery packs being in the electric vehicle's trunk).
