Alas, it's time for new tires. I have never been happy with the stock Michelin Energy Saver A/S', especially in the wet, and figure it's time to upgrade before the rainy season. I'd like something that's better in wet conditions for sure. Does anybody have any recommendations for FFE replacement tires? Has anybody found a reasonably well performing, quiet tire that doesn't have a huge impact on range? Any that I should avoid? There's so much choice that quite frankly I'm experiencing analysis paralysis. At the moment I'm considering Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3 or maybe Continental Trucontact Tour, but i've not settled on anything yet. I welcome your tire thoughts and experiences. Thanks.

I put some Pirelli P6's on mine about 4 years ago. I paid about $600 on sale from tire rack including mounting and balancing. They now have 40k miles on them and still look great. They ride better and are quieter than the original Michelin tires that only lasted 35k miles. As for handling, it was not worse, but I cannot really speak there as I drive very conservatively. Never once have I squealed around a corner or found the edge. There was no noticeable change in range.

I went with the Yokohoma YK520 and didn't see much of a range hit. It actually improved, probably because of the fresh tread having lower rolling resistance. The EnergySaver felt dangerous.

I went for the cheaper route since the Michelins are so expensive. I got Kumho Solus and have probably 40k on them. No loss of range and much better rain performance than the michelins. Good tires. About $140/ea.

Thank you all for the replies. Those are all options I hadn't yet considered when looking for quiet tire with better wet traction and minimal range hit. I'll check them out.

I wish I had known about this forum a year and a half ago. I did minimal research and have suffered from buyer's remorse ever since I put Michelin Defender 2 tires on. They definitely pulled back my range. I don't have to be careful driving in the rain anymore, but I'd rather have the range I got with the Energy Savers A/S.

The rain didn't bother you at all, did it?

I had some mild fish-tailing with the factory tires (Energy Savers A/S), so after that, I was always very careful in the rain. The Defender 2s are excellent in wet weather. I have no problem with them at all there. However, they did cut my range by about 10 miles.

Has anyone tried these: https://erangetires.com/en/ I am considering them for my next pair. I have 66,000 miles on my 2017 and on my second pair of the oe tires. Like the OP I did tons of research when I replaced the original set in 2021 and decided to stick with stock because I didn’t want to loose the range.

The Sailun Erange tires were intriguing. I considered them, but It was hard to find any info about them, so I passed. I ended up buying a set of Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3's a few days ago. Haven't driven much with them yet, but so far they seem really quiet with noise levels at least on par with the OEM Energy Savers. It was very stormy today and I can report they are 1000+% better in the wet than the Energy Savers. Sooo happy about that. It's no longer scary to drive in the rain. No idea yet how much of a range hit I'll experience. I'll try to rememeber to report back when I have more miles on them. Again, I want to thank everyone who took the time to suggest tires and report tire experiences. It was very helpful to me. Hopefully it can be of use to others.
