    September Sales-110 Units/Trouble in Fordsville

There are some good reads out there on the subject that report that stressing of the grid due to proliferation of EVs shouldn't be a concern. Here are a couple: http://insideevs.com/pecan-street-project-ev-charging-not-likely-to-stress-grid/...

Charging in a warm or hot enclosed space, like a garage

I've had the TMS come on during charging when it was 80-85F ambient, while stuffing that last kWh into the battery, both during L1 and L2 charging. L1 seems to just run a circulation pump, and at L2 much more is happening, at least audibly (fans running). I have some screen captures from...

    PHEV + EV Household

Cool, michael!!! So are there three drivers in the household, or two? Also, why not two BEVs instead of two EREVs? I'm not questioning your judgement, just really curious since I have a 3-EV household too. Only two drivers, and the EREV was really to replace an ICE backup for my primary...

    Out the door price

Congratulations on the killer deal, ahwnn! Looks like you did a lot of homework before jumping in... impressive.

Mental note: Buy a car with a spare tire next time!

Unfortunately, plug-in electrics typically don't come with spare tires; at least none of the ones I've shopped do. If I were a betting man (and I am), I'd go as far as saying that none of the plug-ins on the market today come with a spare tire. Folks on the Volt forum actually bought spares...

Texas Summer about to start - Temp Management System Questn

Yeah, unfortunately the thermal management system doesn't turn by itself on when unplugged. I just wrote something up about dealing with this yesterday...thanks to the recent heat wave here in California, I got a warning message on the dash to plug in the vehicle when not in use...

    Really hot 110V Plug

Hi kmaluo - No, it's not normal and it is a fire hazard. Assuming the plug on your charge cord is fine, I'd replace the socket.

    Navigation And Shortcuts

Holy crap! That was a close one. Glad to hear you didn't get stranded. Did you try looking at plugshare.com? Not sure it would have helped... Even here in SoCal, chargers are few and far between once we get off of the beaten path...

$6,000 Cash Back on 2014 Focus Electric

Cool, FF_rox! How long do you have to wait?

    150 mile range

Did a quick google search, looks like the average commute is 16 miles one-way, so 32 mile round trip, which makes FFE's range well within that engineering rule of thumb. Agree with you that more range would be nice... with no increase in price, of course.

range question for current FFE owners

It's not just the FFE, pjam3. At the moment, hills aren't good for the range prediction on any BEV. My wife experiences the same phenomena in her Tesla-powered RAV4 EV. Every Tuesday she leaves home for a 5 mile trip, range of 98 miles usually. One mile of that trip is a steep uphill. By the...

range question for current FFE owners

howardc64 - Looks like the Mercedes B-Class ED is coming your way next year.... specs in the article below indicate that it should fit your needs. http://insideevs.com/breaking-mercedes-benz-b-class-electric-drive-priced-41450/

Thermal management when not plugged in....?

What I do to address the issue is remote start the car when it's parked in direct sunlight over 100F. It runs for about 10 minutes before shutting itself off. Did this a few times at about 2pm during long hot summer days. Doing so prevented the email notifications asking me to plug it in. On...

Soon to be a owner but have a question..

banshee08 - I am in So Cal, lifetime avg on my FFE is 244 Wh/mi, or 4.1 mi/kWh. Averages about 80 miles on a charge. I charge at work and at home, so I don't drive it conservatively (it's a fun car!). My situation is the opposite of yours... I drive the FFE, my wife drives the RAV4 EV.

110 plug wont charge to 75 miles.

51 miles driven with 35 miles left? Guess you're not a noobie anymore!

Considering importing used FFE into Canada

Considering there are no rebates/incentives in your area, and the FFE you are looking at has less than 2000 miles, I suspect you're not overpaying at all. Good luck Mark, keep us posted!

    PHEV + EV Household

Wow... everything you've said above points to a 9-year payback on the conservative side. I'm in SoCal also and am exposed to rates very similar to what you mentioned. Sounds like it's time for me to look into it again... Thanks davideos!

    PHEV + EV Household

FFE and RAV4 EV - nice combo, Syrinx! :-) davideos - what's the time to break even on solar? Back in 2011/2012 when I was shopping around it was like 14+ years. Has it gotten better?

Time for service! Oil change needed!

Their website says that the $600/year service plan (or $1900/4 years, or any other more expensive plan that covers more miles) for the Model S is inclusive of the actual annual service work. So once the service pal is paid for, there is no extra charge for the annual service. Seems to also...
