Does using the remote start turn on the battery heater as well, when not plugged in? And does the remote start have a time limit before is shuts back off?

Yes the remote start turns off after 10-20minutes.

Actually, you configure the preferred duration in the left-hand dash display. Choices are 5, 10, or 15 minutes. See page 28 of the 2013 owner's manual, or page 109 of the 2014 owner's manual.

The manual also says this in regards to extending the duration by issuing another remote start command after the car has already been remote started and is still running:

"If the duration is set to last 10 minutes, the system will add another 10 minutes. For example, if the vehicle had been running from the first remote start for five minutes, the vehicle will continue to run now for a total of 20 minutes. You can extend the remote start up to a maximum of 30 minutes."
