Nobody gives a crap about rebates and credits when they buy a Tesla.
Really? They really should give a crap. In absence of rebates and credits, specifically ZEV credits, Tesla would likely cease to exist. The model S would likely have a $150K price on each car, according to the L.A. Times.

Tesla themselves seem to think their potential customers really care about the federal and state credits. Apparently it's so important to them that their customers are aware that it's in the second paragraph of their "True cost of ownership" web page:

So, you claim you're going to get a Model X... will you be taking advantage of the tax credits???

I mean 25 miles one way isn't all that far to get to work in many places across the US.

25 miles one way (or 50 miles a day) is more than the median commute, and more than the median daily distance driven. The average daily distance driven is higher than the median, and is only 37 miles. Yes, the FFE (or any about 80 mile range BEV) isn't realistic for the higher end of the distribution. It is very realistic for more than half of the population, however.

So yeah it works great if everything is in some perfect world where your house, your work, your kids schools, and all your kids activities are all within some 20 mile radius. But for most people, that isn't close to the real world.

For more than half of the people, it could work. Not as the only car, but as the commuter car.

I agree that there is a sizable fraction that need a longer range than 80 miles.

This is why I don't believe half the stories people tell. People who actually take their kids to these events will have far different stories. Yes, if you drop off your kid at the local park down the street from your house and some other parent drives the kids, it would work.

I find your defense of these theories to be a lie.
So, pjam3, you are saying that either my friends are lying to me or that I am lying.

Let's keep it civil here guys, and minimize the name-calling. We can have differences of opinion and variations in experience, but it doesn't mean that people are "lying" just because theirs differs from yours. I don't think any of us here lie.

In any case, I think we'd all rather see conversations where people thoughtfully explore how and why they might be experiencing different outcomes, sharing information, theories, etc.. We're more likely to learn something that way, and have more fun doing so.

Thanks.
