Lets take a poll, who has the most miles/years on their FFE?

85,200km on my 2017. I love my electric car! Considering trading on a 2024 Mach E. I like the idea of 500km. Mine has gone down to 185.

63K on my 2015. Now down to 70-mile range in summer, 55-mile range in winter. Would like to upgrade to 33.5 kWh battery, but Ford wants more for new battery than I paid for my car new after incentives, sales tax savings, and tax credit.

Still 112 miles range.
98,367 miles today.

I meant to post this on Friday... My odometer reached 160,000 km (100,000 miles) on Friday.

It's been fairly cold, so my range is about 120 km in a full charge, but that has been typical over its 7+ years of use. The display shows its lifetime regenerated energy distance is just over 20,000 km.

I got to thinking about this in a discussion somewhere else about battery longevity.

The discussion got into a lot of speculation about what takes its toll on the battery. Some leaned towards number of charge/discharge cycles while some leaned towards extent of the cycles (40% to 90% SOC vs <10% to 100% for instance).

Given a rated range of 160 km, having now driven 160,000 km I have charged it at least 1000 times. Most of the time, it gets charged when it only gets down to 50%, so in reality, it's probably been charged at least 2000 times.

Unlike newer EVs, where maximum SOC can be set, the FFE charges to 100%. Also, that rated range of about 160 km has had me draining my battery down to below 10% a fair number of times over the years, at least monthly.

Heck, the orange low charge warning appears at 16 km, and I've seen that enough. In fact, far in the last two years since my wife got her SR Lightning, with it giving the low charge warning at 80 km (screen configurable on the Lightning), I've seen it dozens of times in the FFE and maybe two or three times in the Lightning.

So, over seven years:
  • It's pretty much always been charged to 100%
  • It's been drained below 10% at least once or twice a month
  • It's been charged about at least 2000 times
All that, and the battery is still doing quite well.

So folks know, 100% is actually 95% SoC on the pack. Like, it stops charging the moment the battery manager ticks from 94.9 to 95%. And 0 on the gauge is about 8.5% SoC. Note the 0.15kWh to empty:1000006240.jpg1000006239.jpg
